The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Dr. Obiageli Edith Amadiobi, has bagged the Digital Luminary Award for Digital Technology Transfer and Innovation at the Telecommunication Excellence Award Night, held at the NAF Conference Centre, Jabi, Abuja, yesterday, organized by the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria.

The award was conferred on her for her exceptional leadership, strategic foresight, and unwavering dedication to advancing and regulating the inflow of foreign technology, promoting local innovation, and strategically positioning Nigeria’s Intellectual Property (IP) ecosystem to support the rapid growth of the digital economy.

In a letter inviting her for the award, the Secretary of ATCON, Mr. Ajibola Olude, said that the award was well-deserved and meritorious for her commitment to ensuring efficient technology transfer and fostering indigenous capacity, which plays a pivotal role in strengthening the Nigerian digital ecosystem.

This award is one of the prestigious awards received by the DG and was conferred during the inaugural Telecom Excellence Award, which concluded the Minister-Regular-Telecoms Executives Forum, with the theme, “Driving Nigeria’s Digital Economy: Policy Regulation, and Industry Synergy.” The forum brings together distinguished leaders from government regulatory institutions and industry to shape the collective vision for Nigeria’s digital future.

In her acceptance speech, the DG said that her strength and achievements were by God’s mercy and the unflinching support of her staff. She said that NOTAP was primarily established to regulate the inflow of foreign technologies into the country but also has the responsibility to encourage efficient development and domestication of indigenous technologies.

She opined that NOTAP’s role in strengthening software development for the continuous advancement of the telecom ecosystem has yielded results, and the office will continue to synergize with indigenous telecom operators to achieve greater heights. She thanked the organizers for the award and promised to double her efforts in ensuring the development of local skills in the telecom industry.
