The Digital Transformation Center Nigeria (DTCN), a European Union (EU) organization, has extended an olive branch to the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) to partner in driving the digital transformation of Medium and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in Nigeria.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Director General of NOTAP at its corporate headquarters in Abuja, the Director of Digital Transformation Center, Ms. Thuweb Eiweim, said that the organization has been in Nigeria for over 50 years and has worked in different sectors of the Nigerian economy, especially in the agricultural sector. She added that NOTAP is a critical organization in the technological development of the country.
The team leader commended NOTAP’s management for its interventionist programs in Nigerian knowledge establishments, such as the establishment of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Offices (IPTTOs) and the introduction of the NOTAP-Industry Technology Transfer Fellowship (NITTF) scheme. She noted that these programs can improve practical teaching and learning in Nigerian knowledge establishments.
Thuweb stated that the European Union is interested in collaborating with NOTAP to drive the digital transformation of MSEs in Nigeria. The Director noted that DTCN focuses on research and academia for the development of digital solutions and has been assisting organizations in developing their digital solutions.
Earlier, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NOTAP, Dr. Obiageli Amadiobi, expressed delight in having DTCN visit NOTAP to seek a good working relationship. She said that NOTAP is open to partnering with critical stakeholders, whether local or international, to ensure the technological development of the country.
Dr. Amadiobi emphasized that IP development and protection have gained prominence in developed countries and that Nigerian researchers are known for high-impact research works. She informed the visitors that through NOTAP’s intervention in Nigerian knowledge institutions, emphasis has shifted from conventional research to market- and demand-driven research for the benefit of the country and the economic benefit of the researcher.
The DG expressed NOTAP’s readiness and commitment to partnering with DTCN to improve the critical skills of Nigerian SMEs. She said that NOTAP will continue to open its doors for partnerships to ensure the development of the Intellectual Property ecosystem in Nigeria.
