The NITTF programme is designed to bridge academia-industry gaps, empowering Nigerian researchers with industry exposure and skills to develop impactful solutions. The beneficiaries will pursue PhD programmes in Nigerian universities, tackling industry-specific challenges and improving the overall standard of living of citizens.
In her opening remarks during the selection examination, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NOTAP, Dr. Obiageli Amadiobi, said that the programme was initiated by the Office in collaboration with the industry to groom highly skilled manpower and industrial workers that will research on challenges of industry to improve production of goods and services, and also become knowledge workers that will impact on Nigerian students.
She said that the programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration, as it is a clear effort to drive economic growth through innovation and technology adaptation. She added that the Office will continue to do its best in training Nigerian tech-enthusiasts to ensure the growth and development of skilled industrial workers.
The DG stated that the programme is an initiative of the Office in partnership with the industry to offer PhD scholarships to talented Nigerians who have finished master’s degree programmes and are desirous of obtaining a PhD on a research topic that will be determined by the sponsoring company.
She, opined that the 5th NITTF selection process sparked enthusiasm among stakeholders, who praised NOTAP’s commitment to fostering innovation and industrial development, saying that the Office had, over the year, continued to be a leading voice in ensuring the country’s tech-development.
Dr. Amadiobi used the platform to commend the sponsoring companies, Universities, the Nigerian Committee of Vice Chancellors, National University Commission (NUC), Sypher Crescent, and other stakeholders for their support and confidence in the Office.
She described the level of success recorded so far on the programme as a testament to the Office’s commitment and as a clarion call for other multinational companies operating in the country to key into the programme.
